To make a pair of gloves that a deaf person would use to give a performance about themselves. Enhancing sign language through live visuals.
I would like to get a deaf person and track their hand movements and actions and then provide the audience with clips and generated visuals accordingly. Who are you? Would be the question i would ask the user / deaf person then they, with out talking would express to the audience who they are.
I would use gloves that are worn by the user to get the values needed for the visuals. Painting a picture of the user. I would also have audio that changes to the gesture of the user. If the gesture was slow and sad like the music would change dynamically.
Using digital vision i think that we could get across alot more information and create an intimate experience between the user and the audience.
Visuals:
Much like painting a picture. The visuals would be layered up on top of each other vas the user “talks” about themselves; creating a digital picture of what the user has talked about. Their likes, dislikes, hobbies or family and friends.

Physical:
A pair of Gloves that will be fitted out with sensors, tilt switches and pressure pads. This will produce the values for the visuals.
The hands are very expressive and in Deaf culture the hands are the way that people communicate. NZ sign language is the 12th most used language in NZ.
Things I am tracking:
Finger Position
Gesture
Acceleration
